Xerro Sum Magic Part 3: Songs of the Heart
Angeline was still wiping tears from her eyes as the guards escorted her and Wogan up a staircase that descended from one of the shanties on the bridge above. Xerro had fallen to his death moments ago and she had still not even had time to process it. They had known him only a couple days but her heart ached as if she had known him her entire life. Wogan was stoic as always, she wondered if he even felt the loss. The stairs ended in a tavern that was currently empty. A single woman waited in the room, wearing the vestments of the holy church. The legionnaires genuflected to the woman before departing. She walked behind the bar after the soldiers left and put out three glasses. “Hello princess,” she began, “I am sister Margriete. It was I who responded to your letter.” “A bar is a strange place to meet a holy woman.” Said Wogan, as she poured the contents of a bottle into the three glasses. “It is the last place we will be disturbed, and besides,” she said, tipping back her glass, “just

The Adventures of Tiffany the Barbarian Part 4: Revelations “Shatter Peak?” Asked Tiffany as they rode. “Oh, it's the best town ever.” Gushed Harley. “See, there was this epic wizard duel centuries ago. The two combatants did so much damage that a chunk was blown out of the mountain they were fighting on. And eventually a town sprung up inside the hole. It caters to adventurers and mercenaries and has some of the best shops and services in the realm.” Harley's eyes widened and she pointed up the road enthusiastically. “There!” Ahead on the road loomed the mountain peak. Just below the summit it did indeed look like someone had taken a giant spoon and dug a hole out of the side. The road led straight to the hole and as they passed through the gates there were buildings everywhere, even built into the overhang of the mountain. The road led straight into an arena-like clearing in the center of town. The whole area was covered by a cage of bars that gave it the appearance of a vague

Xerro Sum Magic Part 2: The Holy City
Thaddeus watched as four hundred and forty-two Adelphi legionnaires assembled in the courtyard of the temple of Amon, just as they did every morning. Archbishop Ambrose stood at the top of the steps to the grand main entrance, just as he did every morning. He raised his staff and the large, clear, multifaceted gem and he spoke the prayer, “May their arrows in flight turn, may their swords in thrust repel, may his light let nothing pierce these mortal shells. The protection of Amon be upon you.” The gem of the staff glowed, as did the holy symbols of Amon each legionnaire wore around their neck. Just as they did every morning. As the soldiers began to disperse, half going on to their daily duties and the others to get some rack time, a woman a bit older than Thaddeus himself in flowing white hooded robes approached him. “Your grace,” she said respectfully but somehow still with a hint of annoyance, “you missed these papers this morning when you were signing.” “Please,” he replied with a

The Weight of One's Worth
The Weight of One's Worth By C.A Helmling He ran as hard as he could. He ran as fast as his legs could carry him. Between trees, over ditches, through bramble and briar he didn't stop. He couldn't. Thorn and twig tore his clothes and skin. Rock and pebble scratched and poked at his feet. He could still hear it behind him. He could feel the pounding on the earth, hear the snapping of trees, hear its breath and smell the foulness of it. If he stopped, he was dead. So when his foot caught the root, he knew it was over. He lay in the moss and leaves, his breath panting, waiting for it to end him. But the world around him was silent. The stench remained but his own breath was the only he heard. He wondered if he had lost it, if he had gotten away. He dug his fingers into the soil and began to slowly pull himself forward. Then he heard the burbling growl from above. He slowly looked up to see its mouth hanging above him with its large teeth, the drool from which dripped down as it opened

The Adventures of Tiffany the Barbarian Part 3: Murder Hoboing 101 "Harley!" Screamed the big man in the shiny plate armor. Rutger was feverishly attempting to beat out the flames on his cape that was becoming less and less white by the passing second. "Damn it, we agreed you were to not cast spells unless we were prepared and had deemed it necessary. Your magic is too wild and unpredictable." "No, you agreed, I never agreed to nothing." Replied the tiny girl standing on the bar table. The compatriots of him and her had already seen the signs she was about to cast and ducked under the table. The halfling girl stood defiant in the man's face in her multi-colored leathers and bright pink twin ponytails atop her head. Tiffany could hardly miss them as she entered the bar. The other patrons had cleared back as her spell erupted into an unintentional fireball. As the tavern staff rushed about putting out scattered flames, the other party members were beginning to crawl out from under the

This was another one of those 2 day 2000 word contests where time was no enemy but 2000 words was far too small to get out everything I wanted to include. I wanted more development of Delilah but she became more thenplot than as full a character as I wished. As with my last, I did not make ot to the second round. Alright, this story gets kind of wild, so hold out until the end. My name is Andrew. I work for a company that is pushing the boundaries in genetic editing. You know the company line. The goal, at least on paper, is to edit out cancer and other genetic defects that plague mankind. But, as most of you know, every company has a side hustle. So this story begins with getting laughed at by the girl at my company I'd been crushing on. She was the secretary of our CEO. She came down to grace the presence of us lowly lab grunts to find out the skinny on KX-1408. A promising iteration of our editing compound. A compound I was transporting for further testing when I spotted her. My
A Halloween World Sung to "Part of that World" By Howard Elliott Ashman / Alan Menken Look at this stuff Isn't it neat? Wouldn't you think my collection's complete? How Can You Ask Why? When I say I love you and you just ask why It's easy to answer and not even try. From your hair like molten copper, especially when the light shines just right To your hazel eyes, to green in passion so bright. Rimmed in thick red lashes and cute button nose That I just want to nibble and forget all my woes. Lush kissable lips and freckle blessed cheeks A tongue that can be sassy, teasing or sweet. A soft ample bosom, yes I know sounds lude But it's how you first caught my attention, it's not meant to sound rude. So I love your hips and luscious behind And full and firm thighs I think are sublime. Your engaging smile shows the warmth of your heart I want nothing but your happiness and never to part. You care for others more than yourself And still try to help people despite your health. I love that you are creative, funny, and smart And that you can be unselfish and lead with your heart. I love that you’re shy and introverted, probably more than I should But mostly

I'm glad The Last Man is being enjoyed. But I'm always bewildered with how later chapters of some stories can have more views than earlier ones. Do some people not read the whole thing?
I entered a short story into a contest for prizes an posssible publishing but it has to be voted up to continue. So I need people to read and vote here https://soopllc.com/blog/short-stories/familiar-by-c-a-helmling/ I hope I have support in this.
